NVQ Level 2 General Construction

The Level 2 NVQ in General Construction is a competency-based qualification designed to develop essential knowledge and skills for working in the construction industry. Key focus areas include:

Is this NVQ Accredited?

This qualification is supported by CSCS and accredited by either SQA or ProQual, ensuring it meets industry standards and requirements.

Progression

Upon completing the Level 2 NVQ in Groundwork, you will have gained the skills, knowledge, and understanding required to demonstrate competence in your role.


This qualification provides a clear pathway for career progression, enabling learners to advance from Groundworker to the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision — Occupational Supervisor.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, and it can be undertaken without any prior training or qualifications in this subject area. However, learners must have the potential and opportunity to successfully complete the qualification.

Qualification Structure

To achieve this qualification, learners must successfully complete mandatory core units along with units from Group A and either Group B or Group C.


Mandatory Core Units (Complete 2 Units):

1. Conforming to General Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Workplace

2. Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace


Group A (Mandatory Unit + Optional Endorsement):

Learners must complete the mandatory unit and one optional endorsement unit:

Mandatory Unit:

• Installing, Maintaining, and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment in the Workplace (Construction and Civil Engineering Operations)


Optional Endorsements (Choose One):

• Installing, Maintaining, and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment in the Workplace (Protection and Safety Notices)

• Installing, Maintaining, and Removing Work Area Protection and Safety Equipment in the Workplace (Safety Lighting)


Group B (Choose 3 Units):

Learners must achieve three of the following:

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in the Workplace (Concrete Slabs/Bases)

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in the Workplace (Form Slab Edging)

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in the Workplace (Position Reinforcement)

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in the Workplace (Form Surface Finish)


Group C (Mandatory Unit + Optional Endorsement):

Learners must complete the mandatory unit and one optional endorsement unit:


Mandatory Unit:

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace (Construction and Civil Engineering Operations)


Optional Endorsements (Choose One):

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace (Inspection Chambers)

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace (Surface Water Systems)

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace (Foul Water Systems)


Assessment Process

Once enrolled, learners will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will guide them through the qualification process:

• An induction visit will be arranged to explain evidence requirements.

• Your assessor will schedule on-site observations to assess your practical skills.

• Various assessment methods will be used, including:

• Professional Discussions

• Written Knowledge Questions

• Witness Testimonials


This structured approach ensures learners can effectively demonstrate their competence and meet the qualification requirements.
