NVQ Level 2 Trowel Occupations - Bricklayer

The Level 2 NVQ in Bricklaying is a competency-based qualification designed to develop essential knowledge and skills in:

• General Health, Safety, and Welfare in the workplace.

• Confirming Productive Working Practices to ensure efficiency on-site.

Learners have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as:

• Erecting and Setting Out Masonry Structures

• Concrete Work

• Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing

• Installing Drainage Systems

• Plastering

• Rendering


This qualification equips learners with the practical expertise to excel in bricklaying and related areas, meeting industry standards and supporting career progression.

Is this NVQ Accredited?

This qualification is supported by CSCS and accredited by either SQA or ProQual, ensuring it meets industry standards and requirements.

Progression

Upon completing the Level 2 NVQ in Carpentry, you will have gained the essential skills, knowledge, and understanding to demonstrate competence in your role.


This qualification provides a pathway for career advancement, allowing learners to progress from Carpenter to the Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision – Occupational Supervisor.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, and it can be completed without any prior training or qualifications in this subject area. However, learners must have the potential and opportunity to successfully achieve the qualification.

Qualification Structure

2. Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace

3. Moving, Handling, and Storing Resources in the Workplace

4. Erecting Masonry Structures in the Workplace

5. Setting Out Masonry Structures in the Workplace


Optional Units

Learners must achieve a minimum of 14 credits from the following:

• Erecting Masonry Cladding in the Workplace

• Erecting Thin Joint Masonry Structures in the Workplace

• Placing and Finishing Non-Specialist Concrete in the Workplace

• Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing in the Workplace

• Repairing and Maintaining Masonry Structures in the Workplace

• Producing Internal Solid Plastering Finishes in the Workplace

• Applying Solid Render to Background Surfaces and Producing Finishes in the Workplace

• Installing Drainage in the Workplace


Assessment Process

Once enrolled, you will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will guide you through the qualification process.

• Induction Visit: Your assessor will arrange an induction to discuss the evidence requirements.

• On-Site Observations: The assessor will observe your work on-site to assess your skills and competence.

• Assessment Methods: A range of methods will be used, including:

• Professional Discussions

• Knowledge Questions (written or verbal)

• Witness Testimonials
